Physical Therapy Team


Michael Polascik joined the Sports Medicine South of Gwinnett team as the Physical Therapy Director in 2019.

Dr. Polascik has served as a clinic manager, physical therapist, and athletic trainer in the Atlanta area since 1986. Prior to his move to Atlanta, he was the head athletic trainer at Bethany College, as well as a graduate assistant athletic trainer at Virginia Tech—both schools where he also taught advanced athletic training courses. Dr. Polascik became an assistant professor at the University of North Georgia in 2017 and is currently a faculty member there.

Dr. Polascik is a Certified Athletic Trainer through the NATA, a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the NSCA, a US Weightlifting Federation Certified Level I Sport Performance Coach, a Certified Functional Movement System Professional, is certified in Dry Needling and in Myofascial Manipulation, is certified in Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization, and is also certified in Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy through the McKenzie Institute.

He is a certified Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapist through the North American Institute of Orthopaedic Manual Therapy, is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Manual Physical Therapists, and is certified through the APTA as a Credentialed Clinical Instructor.

As a member of the National Ski Patrol and being certified in Outdoor Emergency Care, Dr. Polascik has been volunteering as an Alpine Ski Patroller at Cataloochee Ski Resort in Maggie Valley, North Carolina, since 2011.

Tammy Brent

Physical Therapy Assistant

Tammy Brent grew up in South Florida and she was actively involved in soccer, softball and running. Her interest in pursuing a career in Physical Therapy was developed after witnessing many teammates injured and learning of their rehab.

Tammy graduated from South Florida’s Broward College in 1982 with an Associates Degree in Physical Therapy. Her 30 years of clinical experience include 15 years of Orthopedic and Sports Medicine with Georgia Physical Therapy, Southern Orthopedic Specialists and presently with Sports Medicine South. She has special training not only in Orthopedics and Sports Medicine but also in the McKenzie Mechanical Treatment method of treating back pain. Her experience in South Florida included several years treating burn patients and through the recovery process with scar tissue management. Tammy continued her wound care management/debridement skills upon moving to Georgia at Cobb Hospital. Additionally, she has been a Clinical Coordinator for PTA students from Gwinnett Technical Institute for 11 years and has been involved with ATC and PT students for the last several years.

Tammy has been married to her husband, Ron Brent, since 1982. Tammy, Ron, and their two children, Brian and Megan, reside in Dacula, Georgia. Tammy is a 2nd Degree Black Belt in the art of Tang Soo Do. She has been actively involved in Christian Martial Arts for 16 years including instruction, training and school administration. She has also served on the Board of the International Fellowship of Christian Martial Arts. Her hobbies include: kickboxing, zumba, cycling and running.
